That is the question...

I keep seeing conflicting information about water at the site. Some people are saying there's no water whatsoever, then others say there are 3 showers or something.

What's the deal? Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!!!!!!

STOP THE PRESSES!
_________________________________________________

Breaking News: Critical Massive 2008! Location! Dates!

Ignition Northwest and your Critical Massive Production team is thrilled to announce the location and dates of this year's Northwest Regional Spectravaganza, Critical Massive.

This year, through the ever diligent efforts of the Producers, we have secured a gorgeous location. Nestled in the Metheow Valley, four hours East/Northeast on a truly stunning piece of private property known as Skalitude. Seriously, this place is a little slice of heaven. It all goes down June 2-8, (yes, it's a little earlier this year but we've got people who can talk to people about this).

Stay tuned for continuing announcements regarding logistics, site details, art grants and much more.

Mark your calendars, program your blackberry, tattoo the date on your forehead (remember to get this done backwards so that you will be able to read it in the mirror), but whatever you do...don't miss out on the grandest Critical Massive yet.

CM07 - Thanks for the Art!

The Board of Ignition Northwest would like to shout from the rooftopsjust how much heartfelt gratitude we have for the entire community,
and the amazing things we all did in order to make Critical Massive 2007 such an amazing event.

It's been about a month now since CM07, and while you probably haven't forgotten all the amazing art that was there, there are
probably a few things that you missed out on, that need to be recognized.

First - is that a portion of the amazing community art which was presented by YOU, was also funded by YOU – as members of Ignition
Northwest you are part of the organization that made the unprecedented Art Grant budget of $10,000 that funded some of the art
projects you saw at Critical Massive 2007.

Good Job on that!

Second - is that the very hard work of making the decisions regarding how much money should go to which projects, was for the very first
time handled by an Art Grant Committee – a group of committed community members who were not a part of the event production team,
nor were they serving as board members for Ignition Northwest (the group that was responsible for overseeing the entire event budget).

Please help me in thanking these people who worked behind the scenes, dealing with two extremely volatile components - which often become quite dangerous when mixed together (Art and Money):

Michelle Bates
Dawn Bustanoby
Jordan Howland
Yuba Foxfire

These folks did an amazing job, and also painstakingly worked through a number of issues that had never really been addressed before. They also helped us uncover a few flaws in the process - and I am confident that in the future this process will get better and better.

Most Sincerely,
Heather Candelaria
[Heather@...]

PS> Here is a brief wrap-up of the projects that received grants for Critical Massive 2007:

Project: Pyramid
Contact: Erik Moore
Amount granted: $2,000

The largest grant, but also quite possibly the largest ambition. Due
to unforeseen circumstances (including a house fire) this project did
not make it to CM07 and therefore forfeit the final 1/3 of the money
that was granted. The original 2/3 of the grant we hope will act as
an investment in a future display of this project.

Project: Mermaid Show
Contact: Leslie Rosen
Amount granted: $400

This project was a combined workshop/performance – those of you who
missed the show will probably find lots of pictures of the pretty
mermaids online (as their dancing looked beautiful in the forest).

Project: Power Tool Races
Contact: Rusty Oliver
Amount granted: $1,500

Not only did the Power Tool Races Rock at CM07, they also made it
into The Stranger's 'Party Crasher' column when they did their trial
run at the Georgetown block party. We are happy to see that this
grant helped to fund a project that crossed-over into the surrounding
communities.

Project: Cakewalk
Contact: Martian
Amount granted: $1,000

Possibly the SWEETEST bus-makeover yet! The flaming candles were a
nice propane achievement – and they hardly ever blew out!

Project: Psyphozoa
Contact: Seth Shumway
Amount granted: $1,000

This project made the most with the least – even though it lacked
many additional bells and whistles that were planned for the project,
low-tech ingenuity made it achieve interactivity with flying colors.
We are waiting with bated breath to see how this project blooms at
then next Ignition Northwest event!

Project: Aura Cube
Contact: Dane Johnson
Amount granted: $500

Even though it was hard to find, and also not running 24-7 for the
event, this impressive environmental cube caused a great deal of
contemplation and discussion for those who did participate in it.

Project: Lanterns
Contact: Gwen Williams
Amount granted: $450

These ambient light sculptures were even more beautiful than in
previous years! The lanterns really added a beautiful element to the
space.

Project: Pig Roast
Contact: Rachel Mamane
Amount granted: $300

Once again, at Critical massive a fabulous community feast was laid
out… although there is some very good discussion – regarding "is it
art?". Even if it was a masterpiece of culinary art, in the future
culinary projects like this will probably be handled under a
different category.

Project: Pinball
Contact: Chris Bell
Amount granted: $1,000

*YAY* for Pinball! The machines were fabulous, and a great addition
to the event. We look forward to seeing the final 3 rd pinball
machine at some future events.

Project: Alien Monkey Love Nest Talent Show / Pendants
Contact: Heather Candelaria
Amount granted: $500

A nice job extending the tradition that Fremont residents Jeff and
Karen started years ago – and a great Northwest design to display the
more regional focus of the group. The community participation was
also amazing – better than on the Playa

Project: (d)Evolution
Contact: Tom Fabrizio
Amount granted: $350

The trees on this project were only partially finished, and lacked
the promised screen and lights. Without these being present and
casting the tree shadows at night, this project lacked any
interactive quality. Failing to meet the requirements outlined in the
grant contract, this project forfeited the final 1/3.

Project: Radioator Art Cart
Contact: Josh Lind
Amount granted: $1,000

It worked… then didn't… then did again… then didn't again. Technical
challenges caused this project to be less than promised at CM07 – but
we've now heard that this creation is working, and the artist is
actively sharing its broadcasting powers with the community at
large. We are pleased that it is now working, and look forward to
having it appear and add to future Ignition Northwest events.

Hello lovelies!

I had a fantastic time at CM this year, and I've been hearing mostly good things about it from other people who attended as well.

One or two not so good things have been mentioned as well.

So... I'm soliciting comments from people about the event - good, bad, and ugly (if you have them).

I can't promise to respond to everyone, nor can I promise to address everything brought up here, but I think that a little post-event discussion could help us (everyone who has anything to do with the event) to make it even better next time.

many thanks for the feedback,
Sincerely,
--MadameHeather

Anyone going to Critical Massive for the whole week? (hopeful carpooler)

Hi! I'm hoping to head down from Vancouver to Critical Massive for the full week, and I'm now trying to find out how exactly I'm going to get there. Carpooling seems the obvious option, and carpooling with someone from Vancouver would be the easiest, but I haven't heard anything from the Burning Van tribe-- I'm now thinking if it comes to it, maybe I could haul my gear down to Seattle on a Greyhound bus and maybe meet up with someone there?

I'd be more than happy to provide gas money, hugs, conversation, music, snacks, et cetera. Message me here, or email me at pacific.selkie(at)gmail(dot)com. I'd be overjoyed to hear from anyone who can provide a ride, whether from Vancouver or the Seattle area.

Love!
Selkie

This is a call out for wonderful people to assist with Medical at Critical Massive.
It is going to be a lovely event this year and there will me many opportunities for you to kiss a knee and maybe a finger;place a bandaid on it and then then send that same lovely knee and finger off to frolic with the other knees and fingers in the woods, down by the river dancing to the jamming DJ. Now how much more fun is that. You then get to go check up on those same knees and fingers and maybe thanked by lovely hugs and kisses for helping make all those knees and fingers feel better.
I would love to have a large pool of help this year. The wonderful faces from past volunteers. Some new faces. Your face.
Here is my contact information. Please forward this to Vancouver list and Portland list.

Hello,

Delilah here

First of all.We need volunteers! Men, women, teens!

I am setting out to build a 14 foot tall Pyramid in the center of the UNIVERSE (AKA Fremont neighborhood) in the Fremont Solstice Parade on JUNE 16th. Perhaps after its used there it could go to the next massive!

I 've been working on this great big project since last July, but since January lots has been accomplished.

This project is a display and a work of magic proportions.
How can you build a pyramid in the parade with out stopping the parade? Challenging but possible!

You will build it in the time it takes 150 belly dancers to dance past you!

We are attempting to demonstrate that the seemingly impossible is doable, IF we all get off the couch and work together.

The project needs 66 volunteers (we have 25) this might be YOU!
Have you ever heard the calling from Ancient Egypt to come fourth and do some sacred work?
Now is your chance!

It's components are a large black pyramid frame
40 main stones,
16 corner stones
A 5 foot Golden cap stone, 6 man team
4 Frame managers

We have most of the blocks constructed. We are working on frame and builders choreography. Simple!
We have rented airplane hanger to rehearse in.

There is more to this project esoterically speaking too. . .

You can see a YOU-TUBE clip on my tribe profile and in my blog more articles, photos and stuff.

or go to
www.visionarydance.com/pyramid.html

OH yes and costumes; Ancient Egyptian kilt head dress and eyeliner.

Hello gorgeous seattle burners,
I'm going to be up in Seattle for the weekend of August 11-14. I know y'all are getting geared up to descend into the desert. But those who are not, got any suggestions for this Texan? Got any special events lined up? I am already hankering for more pyrotechnics; Burning Flipside was in May and I am hungry for more fire, firedancers and communion with nature. Or at least learning the Burner Nature of Seattle.
xoxox,

commune

Hey this is perhaps a just in the nick of time-- I arrived here in Seattle tonight and tomorrow (May 5) is the first movie theater screening of my film COMMUNE at the NW Film Forum, it plays for a week.. Come by for part of yer cinco de mayo stuff and say hello..

COMMUNE follows the adventures of the Black Bear Ranch, a seminal anarchistic commune and their kids from 1968 till today. Descended out of the San Francisco counterculture, Black Bear launched with the motto "Free Land for Free People." The only snag was that freedom meant something different for each person who arrived at the Northern California wilderness. Their quest for utopia ultimately tested the core of each of their souls...

"They threw themselves body and soul into group living in one of California's most radical and durable communities...the 60's gets it's most honest appraisal yet." Robert Koehler, Variety

Ric Garcia and his veggie oil bus will be there as will all sorts of groups. We are attempting to create a space, something like a mini Woodstock meets Burning Man meets a good ol' alternative movie screening. There is space for booths for progressive and other cool groups.

... check out the trailer and the growing group of our Seattle film and alt friends. http://www.myspace.com/communethemovie

Thanks! Jonathan Berman, Director of "Commune"

PS What's the coolest thing to do in this town? I want to explore a bit...

A Tropical Rain Forest Event

Hello,

I’m letting all of the tribes know about a regional event coming up soon – Rebirth. Burning Man, but rather than radical desert survival – radical tropical rain forest survival. Details of the event can be found here:

http://www.kapilina.org/bigisland/rebirth2006.html

Hawaii… Fire spinning capital of the world… Big Island… Hot tub ponds heated by thermal vents… Black Sand Beaches… LAVA… REAL LAVA! And a Burning Man regional event.

I’ve tried to figure out how to reduce costs as much as possible for everyone coming over from the mainland (if you can think of anyother suggestions please post):

Rideshare thread from the airport to puna here:
Again if you know cheaper means please repost. See you all there!

SOS- Car accident last night totalled our ride to BRC- Can you help???

Hello my fellow burners,

I'm really taking a liberty by calling y'all that because I myself am not yet a true burner. This is my first year and I am so excited, yet my best friend and I hit a major bump in the road last night, so to speak. On our way to buy supplies for BM, our car got nailed in an intersection and we won't be able to repair it before the trip (*what do you know, we drained our finances on the trip and now we can't afford the repairs before insurance comes through!*). The good news is the NO ONE was hurt- Yay! But now, with a week and a half before the event and not enought money to rent a car, we need to call upon the rest of the community for help. We really are nice people, I promise it will be a good thing to have us there, if by chance any of you can help us make that happen, well, we would be soooo unbelievably grateful. Also, important to note- we are in Seattle and we both have to work on Monday 8/29, so we can' leave until 6pm or later on the 29th or any time on Tuesday (we want to get there as soon as possible of course, but understand that beggars can't be choosers). We need to be home safely by the following Monday night 9/5 (I don't know, by like midnight or something??). We can cover gas of course, or whatever other trade or barter will help our kind-hearted saviour. The options we are open to explore are these: just get a ride with someone (will need room for stuff, unless one of the big trucks heading down would let us throw our stuff on before you go?? Burner Dave, I met you on Vashon 4th of July last year and I sooo wish I had a way to contact you now!!), get rides with seperate someones (we're friends and there are only 2 of us, but we're not attached at the hip or anything), Get someone with ample cargo space, but no passenger space, to take our stuff down and we'll go greyhound to Reno and need a rideshare from Reno to BRC? Any other offers, suggestions, or good vibes would be sooooo amazing- thank you for reading our plea!!! ~~Katie & Lisa
